Abstract
Yahudilikle ilgili yapılan çalışmalarda Ahit Sandığı çoğunlukla kutsal bir nesne olarak ele alınmakta; ancak dinî, toplumsal ve siyasal işlevleri bütüncül bir yaklaşımla yeterince incelenmemektedir. Bu çalışma, Ahit Sandığı’nın erken İsrail döneminde söz konusu alanlardaki işlevlerini birlikte analiz ederek bu eksikliği gidermeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmada nitel yöntem benimsenmiş, Tanah metinleri ve ilgili akademik literatür doküman analizi tekniğiyle, tarihsel-deskriptif bir çerçevede incelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, Ahit Sandığı’nın yalnızca ilahî varlığın temsili ve vahyin aktarımıyla sınırlı kalmadığını göstermektedir. Sandık, göç ve yerleşme süreçlerinde toplumsal birlik ve kimlik bilincini pekiştiren, yön tayininde rehberlik eden, savaşlarda ilahî destek algısını güçlendiren ve siyasal otoritenin meşruiyetini temellendiren çok yönlü bir işlev üstlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte sandığın bağımsız bir güç kaynağı olmadığı; ilahî iradeye bağlılık çerçevesinde anlam kazandığı Filistîler’e esir düşmesi gibi anlatılar üzerinden ortaya konulmuştur. Sonuç olarak Ahit Sandığı, erken dönem Yahudi toplumunda dinî deneyimi yapılandıran, toplumsal bütünleşmeyi sağlayan ve siyasal meşruiyet üretimini destekleyen çok katmanlı bir sembol olarak değerlendirilmelidir. Bu yönüyle çalışma, literatürde parçalı ele alınan işlevleri bütüncül biçimde ortaya koyarak alana katkı sunmaktadır. Bu yaklaşım, mevcut araştırmalardaki kavramsal dağınıklığı gidermeye yönelik sistematik bir çerçeve sunmaktadır.

Abstract
In studies related to Judaism, the Ark of the Covenant is generally treated as a sacred object; however, its religious, social, and political functions have not been sufficiently examined within a holistic framework. This study aims to address this gap by analyzing the functions of the Ark of the Covenant in these domains during the early Israelite period. A qualitative research method is adopted; the texts of the Tanakh and the relevant academic literature are examined through document analysis within a historical-descriptive framework. The findings indicate that the Ark of the Covenant is not limited to representing the divine presence and the transmission of revelation. Rather, it assumes a multifaceted role: reinforcing social unity and identity during periods of migration and settlement, providing guidance in determining direction, strengthening the perception of divine support in warfare, and grounding the legitimacy of political authority. At the same time, it is demonstrated—through narratives such as its capture by the Philistines—that the Ark does not function as an autonomous source of power, but derives its significance from adherence to the divine will. In conclusion, the Ark of the Covenant should be regarded as a multidimensional symbol that shapes religious experience, fosters social cohesion, and supports the production of political legitimacy in early Jewish society. In this respect, the study contributes to the field by presenting a comprehensive analysis of functions that have previously been treated in a fragmented manner, and by offering a systematic framework to overcome conceptual disunity in existing scholarship.
