Human being was purposely created and vested with subtle facultes as required by his mission, which was bestowed on him both physically and metaphysically. Thus, it makes him enable to perform his biological and physiological dutes and obligatons properly. By taking holistc approach to human being, the concept of ‘nafs’ can be seen as a vital ‘mechanism’, which was granted to him in its creaton. In fact, the nafs turns human being into real humanity and makes him different from other beings. It is worthwhile to note here that when concept of human being comes into queston, the Qur’ān frequently speaks of it in the light of the concept of nafs and diverts a reader’s atenton to this phenomenon of nafs. Therefore, it can be said that understanding of human being coincides with understanding of theo-ontological structure of the human. Furthermore, it may not be wrong to say the structural imaginaton of human being was subject to comprehension of the concept of ‘nafs’.
