Abstract

Hz. Ömer, Muğîre b. Şuʻbe’nin mükâteb kölesi Ebû Lü’lüe Feyrûz el-Mecûsî tarafından 23/644 yılında düzenlenen bir suikast sonucu öldürülmüştür.  Hz.

Abstract

Caliph Omar was assassinated in 23/644 by Ebū Lu’lue Feyrūz, the contracted slave of Mughīra Ibn Shu'ba. The death of Caliph Omar as a result of an assassination brought many doubts. The killer of the Caliph is obvious, but the real reason for the assassination and the reasons and persons behind this assassination are enigmatic. The apparent reason for the assassination was that the slave named Abu Lu'lue objected to the contract price determined for him and demanded a discount from the Caliph for this; Caliph Omar also gave a negative response to this request. The murder of a head of state for such a simple reason was viewed with suspicion by a Macūsī slave. Apart from the apparent reason, it is thought that there are other factors and individuals behind this murder. Caliph Omar, who destroyed the Sassanid state by conquering all of Iran and Iraq, gained the hatred of the Iranian prisoners who were brought to Medina from this country. The most prominent of these names is the famous Iranian commander Hurmuzān. Although many internal and external reasons were mentioned in the assassination of Caliph Omar, we believe that Hurmuzān was the most important actor in the martyrdom of the Caliph. Hurmuzān, who we see as the most important figure behind the assassination of Caliph Omar, is the focus of this study.
