Abstract

Abstract

This study is based on a research related to analyze the Eurocentrism in Antonio Gramsci’s concept of hegemony. Recent analyses reveal that the notion of hegemony has been developed in the capitalist societies to explain the historical contest between bourgeoisie and proletariat. Strategies for the formation of hegemony, including using consent and coercion as well as the emergence of the counter-hegemonic struggle are the main components of Gramsci’s conception. The capitalist economic model emerged in the Western social structure and Gramsci covered this in his analysis of the concept of hegemony. However, previous studies did not perform a comprehensive analysis of the Eurocentric nature of Gramsci’s concept. With an analysis of the historical evolution of Eurocentrism and the notion of hegemony, this study aims to present the Eurocentric nature of Gramsci’s concept of hegemony. The research findings are explained through analyzing the formation of the hegemonic position of US in the world politics.
