Abstract

The system of values in contemporary Europe is based on three main pillars: Antquity, Christanity and the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment – being one of these three main sources – has the most influence on European society in terms of the system of values. The Enlightenment is a consecrated secular process for the West. The Western world has accepted the Enlightenment values not only for its community but also as a valid universal value system for all the communites, and has also used this system as a tool to culturally spread throughout the world. Modern sciences have been the most important tool of the Western world to spread out the Enlightenment values. The Enlightenment is a philosophical, scientfc, religious, and sociological phenomenon in which people in the vicinity are moved to the center. Reason, experiment, and intuiton have been the most important method in the Enlightenment philosophy that moves the human to the center. Human instant, human experience and human intuiton have been the most important epistemological source.
