Abstract

Given that human relatonships are based on distrust in modern societes and solidarist values, which maintain the social order and emphasize a sense of “us”, are replaced by self-centered values that foreground individuality, it becomes a necessity for social sciences to rethink the concepts of a humane existence and the principles of living together. This paper problematzes the concept of social capital in the example of the Alevis of Tunceli, which increases solidarity among people, enables human relatonships to occur on a basis of trust, epitomized in the maxim “it does not mater what you know, but who you are familiar with” and evaluated by means of social interactons. This paper aims to investgate how/why the Alevis of Tunceli construct and use social capital analysing the literatüre.
