Abstract

The sociology of values (SV), as a subfeld of sociology, generally studies the issues such as defniton of value concept, origins of values, value types, relatonships between values, functons of values, value differentaton, value conflict and especially value change; and it also examines the relatonships between values and the variables such as gender, age, level of educaton and income, social class, urbanizaton, and, of course, religion and religiousness. It can be said that the nearest neighbouring science of SV, that also has the important relatonships with disciplines such as philosophy, ethics, theology, psychology, and economy, is the sociology of religion. In this context, this paper begins with summaries of the conceptual, theoretcal and empirical contributons to the feld, and then, tries to illustrate the academic interest related to religion-value relatonships in order to present an introductory overview of SV, and make a modest contributon to the domain of value studies.
