In this essay some specifc issues which have an important place in the historical background of the philosophy of Kant are analyzed through the traditon of Leibniz, Wolff and Baumgarten. For this purpose, the essay begins with an analysis of the influence of Leibniz’s distncton between “truths of fact” and “truths of reason” on Kant’s distncton between analytc and synthetc judgments. In additon, the influence of the concepts of “tme”, “space”, “percepton” and “appercepton”, as employed in the philosophy of Leibniz, on Kant’s terminology is emphasized. Next the essay focuses on Wolff’s influence on the insttutonalizaton of German philosophy. Finally the essay concludes by calling atenton to the deviaton from the ratonalist traditon introduced by Baumgarten and the important impact this had on Kant’s philosophy
