Abstract
Philosophy is a consistent and comprehensive
thought actvity on being, knowledge and values. The main character of this
thought actvity is that it is ratonal. Unfortunately, people can be ratonal and
ant-ratonal. Representatves of the ant-ratonal thought in Islamic culture
are Salafsm or literalism. Ratonality, enables the development in every sense.
However, ant-ratonality prevents the development in any sense. Clear example
of this is the madrasa traditon in our culture. Logic is the study of the methods
and principles used in distnguishing correct from incorrect reasoning. Even
this defniton, describes the importance of logic in philosophy.
Despite these thoughts, we do not see that there is a program to develop
philosophical thinking in the past and today. Contrary to expectatons,
especially in Ankara University Faculty of Theology, philosophy and logic courses
in the curriculum are not sufcent enough. However, the main purpose of
establishment of the faculty is the need of theologian who can think critcally.
A critcal mentality is the product of philosophy. The basic conditon of critcism
is an independent mind. The success of the actvity of philosophical thought
and existence of a independent mind only depends on development of this
critcal mentality
