It was assumed that, with modernization, the religion would lose value in the social life, even be disregarded, and the family would transfer many of its functions to other institutions and become weak. However, these assumptions turned out to be false. The religion is still an influence for the masses, and the family still continues to be significant. The institution of family is important but not free of problems. There is a general trend all over the world: Rates of marriage per 1000 people are decreasing, whereas rates of divorce are increasing. This trend is also apparent in Turkey. So, why are rates of divorce increasing day by day?
